The Austin Nature & Science Center is a great place to explore, especially with kids! This is a fun, free activity to do in Austin with your kids or even on your own.
The center features a lot of greenery and shaded spots as you walk around. There is an indoor science center that features a honey bee observation hive, a hands-on exploration of small (nano) objects, a replica cave to walk through, and a naturalist workshop.
Outside you can explore the Forest Trail, the Human Sundial, and the Dino Pit. You can also see the rescued animals, which includes a roadrunner, owls, ravens, and hawks.
We really enjoyed walking around and looking at the different trees and plants. We were able to see fish, frogs, and other critters along the water. Several other families with little kids were cooling off wading in the stream near the pond, which is something that could get a bit crowded during the hotter months.
If you're looking for a fun, free activity to with your kids, this is a great place to visit. There are many good food places just down the road from here, along with Zilker Park, so you can make it a fun day trip, too.
The Austin Nature & Science Center is located right by Zilker Park with free parking at 2389 Stratford Drive, Austin, TX 78746.
