The holidays are upon us and like most of us, I am feeling gratitude and stress at the same time. I have fond memories of celebrating Christmas with my parents and extended family. I love looking back and thinking about our traditional Christmas Eve dinner of ham, potatoes, green bean casserole and warm rolls. I still try to make most of that meal for my own Christmas Eve dinner with my husband and son.
Memories of opening up presents on Christmas morning, emptying our stockings, and going through all the goodies we were fortunate enough to receive make me realize just how lucky we were growing up in our family. Our family would usually visit my grandma around Christmas and celebrate with her. It was always fun sitting around the table playing card games, and as we got older, the games got longer and harder.
Wrapping up Christmas presents and watching some of my favorite Christmas movies is one of my favorite things to do during the holiday season. Lately, my favorite Christmas movies include:
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Elf
Home Alone
A Christmas Story
Spirited - on AppleTV plus, and it’s a musical!
The Holiday
Noelle
There are lots of other Christmas movies that are great, too, but these are the ones I’ve really been wanting to watch.
We recently went to Peppermint Parkway and drove through the Christmas lights. It was cool to see all the different lights and listen to Christmas music. It was a little different than I was expecting, but we still had a good time. I don’t think it will be something we do every year as a Christmas tradition, but I’m glad we went.
Living in Texas, we are able to walk around our neighborhood in the evening and look at all the Christmas lights and decorations. I truly enjoy being able to get outside during the winter months, even though Christmas does feel a little different without any snow.
Christmas time brings back so many memories, and the joy I see on my son’s face when he sees Christmas lights, watches a funny Christmas movie or sings a Christmas song are the things I love the most right now during this time of year.
I am not sure what I want to write about next year. I’m torn over writing about fun events that we go to and writing about my deep thoughts on life. Perhaps I can do a mix of both.
Wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and happy holidays. May 2023 be a year of peace and positivity for us all.
